05/29 I took a big risk by painting in the helix without really thinking about how it will balance against the rest of the piece I am now not sure if the widest part of the outlines are too wide… While I am using acrylic paint, this yellow is not opaque and it is a challenge to have it obscure black. I should note that my concern about balance is my own and not based on what others will think. For a piece to "work" and for me to call it finished, it has to *feel* right and right now, I'm a little worried.
05/29 More green, leveling the rays. Started to paint out the rungs on the bottom part of the helix.

Painted the face design.

Started white detail work on one of the six. (Orange center - the shield)
05/30 Finished the orange centered mandala piece at home. Used protection mantra.

Went to my studio, 2nd layer yellow paint over the bottom part of the helix.

Tried at least 6 times to sketch them in correctly.

I even out the black around the outline of the figure. Added red/orange to palm of hands.

I stop to work on another of the six- the compassion piece. I add white lettering over black.

I start to add white "light" embellishments to the arms, chest area, and part of the body. I paint the Gayatri mantra in the black lines down the side of her body.

The Guardian Six are still a work in progress.

What's left? Decide on mantras for arms, face, double helix- and then paint them. Finish white embellishments. Work on last two of the six guardian pieces. Start hand lettering signs. Finish writing artist statement.
One week until First Friday and the opening of my Featured Artist Exhibition at The Banana Factory. I am going to hold off posting any additional figurative images until after the opening which means come see her in person!
Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of this work. JUNE 7TH SAVE THE DATE! First Friday in June is when this exhibit will open. It will then be on display until July 3rd.
