Review: Diamine Majestic Blue Fountain Pen Ink

Diamine Majestic Blue on a Glass Dip Pen

How cool is this? Diamine Majestic Blue on an Herbin glass dip pen.

From the Diamine Website

"30ml Diamine Fountain Ink - Brand New Design PVC Bottle, light weight and with an affordable price makes the full range of 60 colors very collectible, ideal for students or beginners still searching for their personal color of choice.

Majestic Blue is a "New Century" Fountain Pen Ink. Launched in January 2006, New Century Fountain Pen Ink is available in 30 vibrant shades also suitable for any fountain pen brand"

Diamine Majestic Blue

Diamine New Century Majestic Blue ink tested in a Paperblanks lined journal with off white pages. (Sorry about the white balance on this image.) I tested this ink in an Extra Fine Lamy Studio fountain pen - a blue one... and it seemed to match quite nicely. (Just a coincidence - I don't typically match my pens to ink colors.)

This is a crazy ink and I really like it. When I did the swab, there was a reddish sheen on top of the ink. You can see it if you tilt the page...fascinating. I haven't really experienced anything like that before.

It's super saturated, but there is some cool shading if you look close. The only color that comes to mind as being this dark blue is Private Reserve's Midnight Blues.

This ink has great flow.

Before I switched to a fountain pen, I wrote with a Papermate Stick Pen for years... and I've always been on a hunt for an ink that matches that kind of blue ball-point ink - which also has that bit of a reddish sheen to it. This is the closest I've come for sure.

I really like it and it's going to stick around for a while in my ink drawer.

oh man! I do NOT want to buy more ink! but that reddish sheen on top - I remember that from certain Bic ballpoints too. That is totally sucking me in.

How long did it take to ship from diamine?

I hear you Sophie....

Henry - since I received quite a few bottles, they shipped Royal Mail (to the US - and I did have to sign for it) and it was maybe a week? Not long at all. Not sure how they ship for smaller quantities.

There are other US retailers that sell Diamine ink, but I couldn't find anyone that had all of them in stock. PTP has quite a few...

What do you use to swab the inks? It looks too nice to be a Q-tip.

I got my bottle today. Looks great in a thicker nib.

I picked up a bottle of Majestic a few weeks ago and it has gone to the top of my favorite blue Diamine inks ahead of Sapphire, Imperial and Presidential Blue.
